6x9 Box Space??
Posted by IBBumpin on 03-09-2006 12:22 AM:

MMMk Im in the middle of drawing up the plans for my new enclosure and im putting 4 6x9's in it along with the subs now the question is how mutch airspace should i allow for each 6x9?? The 6x9's will have their own seperate airspace im just not sure how mutch I need. I'll either be using Alpine typeR or Pioneer but im not even sure if it matters how mutch air space they have.

Most 6x9 are typically designed for infinite baffle/free air installations. That's not to say they won't sound fine in a box. The best answer would be to plug the thiel/small parameters into a good box design program. If not that, my educated guess would be around.25cu.ft. which is about the same as one of the prefab 6x9 boxes we carry. Good luck. Rich Safe & Sound 8104 Sudley Rd. Manassas,Va

If you want to get a bit stupid with this install then build a ported 6x9 box and tune that bitch high for some midbass peaky bass punch. I would guess about 1/2 of a cube for each ported and tuned around 125-200hz area. Figure on porting them about 50hz above the Xover point you are going to use. this will give you a nice loud midbass from the 4. I myself tend to use some club speakers 6.5" or 8" that play voice and do the same thing.... we have one car we are building know that has 4 10" Alpha 10s for midrange/midbass and they are loud as hell for cheap!

Love the ported Idea that thought never even crossed my mind. Unfortunately the only available space for ports to the 6x9's would be commin out the side of the box and im not to big on that. Basicly the Idea behind the box is to build the biggest, coolest looking box I could fesibly put in a full size jimmy. Roughly 18Hx18Dx41W So I got to work with AutoCad and built me a 3D model. Basicly Each speaker has its own chamber and the back of the box doubles as an amp rack. The guys at work think ive gone off the deep end but who cares. This truck is definitely gonna rock when im finished. Thanks for the specs by the way they helped alot.
