In general, I prefer silk. I do not like the harshness. That is all.

I agree, I'd go with silk. Aluminum tweeters can and often times do often a bit more detail, but they're also very bright/harsh. Silk tweeters are usually much smoother/warmer and easier to listen to.

I've heard it said that the tweeters in my RC520 components is bright...and I'd agree. After listening to these tweeters in my car for 3 weeks (just installed them!), I'd personally much prefer a smoother tweeter.

Polk does a great job, especially with the SR series, with having very detailed, yet smooth silk dome tweeters.

I personally prefer silk. If the speaker is anywhere near facing you, it sounds harsh. Details, meh. I hear all the cymbals and notes just fine on either.

One thing to consider is where are they going to be mounted and what kind of surfaces might they be facing, if any. I'm talking about reflections. For instance, my dash speakers are facing the windshield causing the sound to be reflected off of the glass. This can cause a harshness too, so if aluminum is already harsh, it could even get worse. Other surfaces in your vehicle come into play also. Things like the door panels, are they padded and carpeted or upolstered, or are they plain old plastic/vinyl?? That will cause reflections too. Silk would be what I'd choose for that reason alone.

Also the music you listen to could effect it. I listen to all metal and rock. Tweeters made of metal tend to be very harsh and overly bright with the guitars and such. Rap music which I used to listen to some, wasn't nearly as bad on metal tweeters. It's probably the lack of all the busy sounds in the background like metal and rock have. More vocals and softer sythesized sounds in rap, plus a lot of bass.

thanks guys, i think im gonna hit the silk. They will be pointed near the center of the vehicle and are located at the front of the door panel, not as far as the pillar but yeah, they are in your face. So it will be importnat to watch them. After the recommends here and some others i think im gonna go with silk and probobly do a -1 or -2 db on the tweeters on top of that. I mean i like the highs, but they are like.. Right there heh
