Need advice on swapping amps.

I'm upgrading my JL 250/1 to a JL 500/1. I have a Stinger Cap, do I just need to disconnect the battery (either way, I know) or do I need to discharge the Cap and then recharge once it's all back together? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you should disconnect the power. You can just pull the in-line fuse in the main positive wire near the battery. You do have an in-line fuse, right? If not, get one, and if you don't, disconnect it at the battery. A cap with time, will discharge on it's own. But to speed things up and to be sure it's discharged, you can use a light bulb to discharge it, the same way you charge it to begin with. Then go ahead and change your amp, and charge the cap with the light bulb. Another question, is the wiring you are using big for your new amp? Make sure it can handle the increased current draw. If not, a wiring kit is due first.

Thanks for the advice! Yes I do have an in-line-fuse, actually when I was originally setting the system up my plans were for the 500/1 (but I ran out of money!), so I used 4 ga wiring. It was raining today so I'll hopefully give it a try tomorrow. Thanks again!
