Help with 2 12in Kicker L7
Posted by srhking247 on 10-04-2011 11:17 AM:

I have recent gotten 2 kicker L7 4 Ohms preloaded in a box off of ebay brand new. I had just hooked it up and everything but i have a problem with it randomly shutting off when i turn the volume up on my head unit. I have my 2 kickers hooked up to a 2000 Watt amp with 2awg wire. what should i do am i over powering or under powering? do i need a new head unit or what? please let me know thank you:)

What is the amp? If you set the gain proper, then you have a voltage issue. What did you do to back up that electrical?

It is probably your ground... bad ground = voltage drop and amp protecting. Check to see if the amp is protecting and make sure you have really good grounds.

Nevermind about the electrical, that amp is nowhere near 2000w. at 4ohm bridged it says 1000w. you most likely have the gain up too much. What size are your subs, as they can handle different amounts of power at different sizes- the 15'' can take 1000w rms, 12''-750rms, 10''- 600w rms, and the 8''-450w rms. look for an amp that will properly power your subs.

This is the peak and rms of the kickers Peak: 3000 watts total / 1500 watts each RMS: 1500 watts total / 750 watts i figured the amp would be good enough. any suggestions on amps?

http://www.woofersetc.com/p-9254-saz-1500d-sundown-audio-1500w-1-channel-monoblock-amplifier.aspx This would be great for those subs, a bit pricey but it is what you need in terms of power. If you can find another amp that does 1500w rms @ 1 ohm then by all means, but this is a great amp. And in terms of electrical, you are going to need to do the Big 3, and a good extra battery will be necessary. Its not hard to do, just an extra cost to support your system properly.

Thanks for the support. Ill definetly be getting a separate. Battery just the amps a not pricey like ya said is there's any other brands I could look at that is just as good just cheaper like on eBay. I appreciate. The tech I'm just trying to learn as I go

Although I believe you get what you pay for most of the time, There are other people here that like this brand. Personally I have never used this brand but it is good for the price.http://www.woofersetc.com/p-8840-brz17001d-hifonics-brutus-series-1700w-rms-1-channel-monoblock-super-class-d-amplifier.aspx
