For 600 or less you can get a viper 791vx which is a nice 2 way pager alarm.

2 Way Pager alarms, like Audiovox Prestige APS-997 or 998 (very cool), Autopage, Viper 791xv or theyr new one that has a 1 mile Range work great altho viper is overpriced and overated for me but well its not about me...

get it installed with a Trunk Pin & Hood Pin (triggers) if its a "new" car they dont even have to Install Pins, just get to the Actual Wire that Triggers when you have the Hood or Trunk open

get a 2 Stage Microwave Proximity Sensor

get a Glass Break Sensor

and get a Siren w/ a Back Up Battery so if they try to cut the wire it still goes off....actually get 2...one under the Hood...and one under/inside the Front Passenger Lower Dash Panel

have this installed by a profesional, make sure you get ALL the components Installed...Kill Switch, Door Trigers, Keyless Entry, Shock Sensor, Dome Supervision.

time to install it should be around 4 hours...and expect to pay for the alarms lets say the audiovox prestige 997 about 350$-450$ + 100$ for the other sensors + whatever the sirnes w/ batteries will cost you.

How do you do the razorblade trick???

razorblade trick is a nasty way of punishing anyone who tries to take your deck. essentially, when they try and pop the deck out from the back of the sleeve they get their fingers cut off. I dont know if anyone actually does it anymore, but I remember lots did it in high school before car alarms became so affordable, and decks were twice as much as they are now.

Depends how much you customize the 'alarm/security system' & the thief (bold or a punk kid).

Here is my personal good true story of a alarm vs no alarm (Alarm Success Story & other theft prevention tips from a alarm installer. MUST READ!)

It is very worthwhile & educational to read! ;)

it creates a 2 stage barrier around your vehicle. it emits a signal and if something crosses its path it senses that the barrier has been broken. like when you walk around a car it detects the intrusion and sends out a warning chirp which is your 1st stage, outside of the car. the 2nd stage is inside the car, if you leave your windows down and somebody tries to grab something from the seat thru the window it will detect the intrusion and when the inner perimeter has been violated it sends a trigger signal for the alarm to set off.

This sounds like something that higher model alarms come with. You think RS1000(Autopage) is equip with this feature?

Most alarms don't come with them. You can just add them on with the shock sensor and diode isolate them so you can get your warn-away chirps and seperate full alarm trigger.

Generally how much do they cost and where can they be purchased?

they are also know as radar or motion sensors, They can be found at any alarm shop or on the internet. If you don't need it right away i'd go on ebay. about 15 there. look at the pictures as some can be fairly large.  The ones i use on my installs are about the size of a business card. makes it easier to find a good hiding spot. Good place is in a vent.

that one actually seems to be fairly small.  it looks like its smaller than a business card.

you can look for an omega, they have one of the smallest ones ive seen and it works fairly good.

if you want something with a more namebrand you can buy DEI but theirs is fairly big and bulky.

expect to pay between 10$ to 25$ if you buy it online, or 20-45$ in a local store.

Actually the DEI seemed to be slimmer and shorter. But I guess thats just in the photos. So how many of these are needed to secure a vehicle??
