If I buy some old school subs...it would be some M&M Godfathers...which are HARD to find. Have any of them laying around?
The speakers have come a long way since the old school...but the amps seem to have gone the other direction!

NO? Well dude...ask around about them...the were killer ground pounders back in '80's-'90's. Awesome...but very rare.

An old PPI Art series amp would be nice. The old PPI amps were expensive from what I remember. Of course you could drop a down payment on a house for a new McIntosh. Troy - carbudgetaudio.com

Yeah...I've been watching all of his stuff. Great looking amps. I don't know how in the world someone got that kind of old school collection still new in the box??? Must have a truck load...bought out an old stereo shop...or found them in one of those storage place auctions. Unreal. I e-mailed and called him about a couple amps I'm looking for, but he hasn't responded other than..."yes I have one of each". lol Won't tell me any more. :-(

I think the only amps he's selling that Zed did are the Lanzar's. Based on Zed's personal write up...he did HiFonics, Autotek, Rodek, Lanzar, Alphasonik, Planet Audio/Boss, ESX, Crunch, and Nakamichi. And not ALL of the amps for those companies...just specific years. Judging by what I've read the bulk of his work was with HiFonics, Autotek, Rodek, Lanzar early, and Nakamichi recent. If he's done PPI, Orion, or any of the others...I don't know about it. But hey...I'm going by what I've read...and what he wrote on his page.

Glad to hear you like the JL stuff. Although I also pick up on the "mainstream"...and sometimes has a negative conotation. lol
Back in the '80's Alpine, Sony, Kenwood, JVC were "mainstream" equipment, but Orion, HiFonics, PPI and all the others were audiophile lunatic fringe CAR audio stuff. lol
While Alpine and some of the other consumer level stuff is fine...I've always leaned more toward the latter.
Here's what I'm putting together...and maybe you guys can offer some insight. I have an '06 Ford F-150 Harley Eddition. The stock system is weak...especially after having a Tundra with the JBL system which wasn't too bad for stock.
I've got a new Pioneer AVIC-Z1 head unit, and ordered a JL Stealthbox with the single 10". I want a little low end, but with a crew cab if you want to keep your seating my options are limited. Infact the shop here just called, and said my stealth box is NEW and won't be available until mid-Feb...which suck.
So now I need to decide on speakers and power. I'm not concerned about my neighbors musical enjoyment anymore...so SPL is nice, but not the priority. SQ is! I asked the stereo shop here...and they were bashing MB Quart saying they aren't what they were. The bashed the current Orion, MTX, HiFonics, and Soundstream...stating the ownership changes ruined their lines.
So now here I am thinking Retro.
I thought about the JL 500/5...but they want almost a grand installed. And if it's only consumer level...and not audiophile...that's a little steep. For a grand I can buy almost any vintage old school amp and have something that will LAST as well as sound good. I have a '70's Dynaco A410 studio am and a Rotel 4 channel running the home stuff...if you know what I mean. Classics...but not as lunatic as tube amps or MacIntosh stuff...but still sweet sounding.
So now what? I love the Zed amps...I check out the site, and love the look. I just don't see any dealers listed, and I'm not sure who'd do the install? It's been years since I've torn apart a car...and I've ruined a few door panels and dash panels in my day, and not ready to go down that road again. lol
Advice?
I bought my Zed amp directly through Zed (Stephen Mantz) himself. I called him several times with questions, emailed him as well. He always replied quickly. His manual is very detailed as for install instructions. If you go to a solid shop they should be able to install and set up with no problems. In fact Stephen told me if the guys at the shop i went to (FX Audio-props great shop) had any questions they could call him direct. I love my amp and will be buying more. Stephen is a pleasure to deal with, excellent customer service, amp was in stock. I cannot say enough about the quality of his product and him as a person. I love OS equipment by the way. Have an OS PPI AM4050 for my front end. Have been watching the amps on "justonemoreamp" on ebay for a while some sweet stuff. Before you buy anything you owe it to yourself to call Zed Audio directly and ask away.

Nice to hear the good response on ZED/S.Martz. I'll definitely give them a call. I had a HiFonics Odin Series VII back in the day...loved it.
Speaking of PPI...you may be able to clear something up for me. What's the difference between your amp...the AM series and just the M series? Amp guts lists this under your AM series..."Power supply in the AM series is *not* PWM". Can you clear up for me what they mean by that PWM? I'm guessing it's some kind of power management...but I'm not sure...and I'm not sure of it's significance in the amp's sound.
I did buy a couple "O/S" amps today yesterday and today off Ebay. I have a soft spot for what I ran way back when...so I bought a NEW in the box MTX BTA 2100 Blue Thunder amp...the board was made by Orion...and I bought a MTX MTA 225 Terminator amp...the board for it was made by PPI. Super Psyched about them. Now if I could just find one of the MTX MTA 250's in preferably WHITE, (but red would be ok too), in mint or near mint I'd be psyched. I decided in MY truck I'm going to put use a Red, White and Blue theme. :-) I thought the three together would look great. I have a few other bids out too for the start of a small collection. lol A ZED is still one I'm going to look into.
Are you running your ZED full range or for the low end?

I had a Hifonics Cyclops Series VII and a Series VII Pluto years back, they were ripped off. I was out of car audio for a while like yourself and just recently got back onto it. Out of buying and using it for a whiel anyways. When i got back into it i was searching for another Cyclops for my OS Rockford subs. That is when i found out about Zed.
I am not sure of all the differences between the two series of amps. Two of the best guys to ask about that on here are Alien Audio and N2Audio. The "PWM" means, Pulse Width Modulated.
Good job on the new OS amp purchases. I am thinking of doing two systems, one in my wifes car and one in my new truck when i get it. In the wifes car all OS stuff, amps anyway, cuz that is my fav OS stuff. All PPI AM series, seeing as i already have one amp. In my new ride all ZED Audio.
The ZED i have now is the "MINILITH" Class D mono sub amp. Check out my profile you can see pics. I love that amp, i seriously cannot encourage you enought to check them out and give some consideration to them. I can pound my subs for hours and the amp does not warm up at all.
The owner of the shop i use for all my work commented that it was a very clean Class D amp and very solid, he liked it a lot. He carries Zapco, DD, JL, Polk, Crossfire, Alpine to name a few and to give you an idea of what amps he is familiar with, he knows what sounds good and what doesnt.

Sounds like we are in to a lot of the same stuff! Did you see the two Cyclops on Ebay? One series VII and one Series VIII. I've been biding on both...so if you are too...tell me and I'll stop! lol
So what does the "Pulse Width Modulated" do? Is it the preferred?
I will definitely look into the Zed...funny...I'm doing something similar with my G/F car. Although...to be honest...I was going to wait and A/B all of these amps before I decided who got what. LOL I've pretty much narrowed my buying group to (outside of the MTX amps I just bought...they are the only MTX amps I'd buy) I like HiFonics (Zed era), Orion OS, and PPI OS. I have a mild curiosity about Zapco OS, US Amps (Zed OS only), and some select Fosgate OS stuff.
If I buy anything new it will be Zed or JL I think.

I did see them no worries though I'm not bidding on them. I may look for one in the future just for nostalgia sake. Question for you, how do you seperate your paragraphs? bit of newb in that respect. I am not sure what "PWM" does exactly, and i am not sure if it is the prefferd or not. In respect to the OS PPI amps, there is much debate as to which was the best, its hard to say. I am about the same with the OS choices, the Zapco stuff new and old is great product. New stuff is very expensive though particularily their top end stuff. I was looking at basically the same for new, the ZED is comparable to the JL in every way in my opinion, but 1/3 the cost.

No worries...I just learned myself! You use a "<" sign...then put a "p" in...followed by a ">" sign. That starts a new paragraph. < p > but right next to each other.
