A cap is there so there is little drop in power between the time the amp pulls the power and the time the alt and and battery wake up and do some work. They fill in that gap of time because it is not instant. SO in other words the amp will pull power out of the cap until the alt. provides the power it needs to run the amp. And the the time the cap takes to recharge is such a small amount of time and the power it draws is very little... Companies just lie to people and tell them that caps are there to support and make the system stronger. So yes a battery will work better but a battery is big heavy and in the way.

In his case, in which we are talking about. A cap is pointless. Read = http://glasswolf.net/caraudio/capacitors.html - -- its a bandaid for a bullet wound

Do you notice a difference in the sound in your 6X9's? You should take a DMM and test at your amps power and ground connections and see if there is a drop. The only problem is you said it happens after 15-20 min so that might be kinda teadious. Also check at differnnet volumes. and check at your battery with a friend reving the engine and see if there is a drop.

They are good in certain situations but in this situation is would be pointless. Like i said before a bandaid on a bullet wound.

dmm= digital multi meter. A volt meter you should know how to use that and just read the voltage at the amp while the systemis play and see what you get.

in addition to big 3, u could try looking into having your alternator rewound to have more amps, or just replace it entirely w/ a high output alt

And also make sure that your ground is a good one...make sure to scrape away paint from the area for a better connection. This helped me...when I first installed everything, I was in a rush and didnt scrape away very much paint at all...so it had to fight its way through the paint. But when I upgraded my ground to a 4-guage...I scraped away every speck of paint and it worked beautifully. Try this out and upgrade wiring as well...check to see if nicer terminals/connectors are needed etc..etc. Good luck. Peace.

if you can get to an audio shop why don't you try and get a decible reading you said it drops in 15-20 minutes play the same song or test tone after 15- 20 min and that would tell you right away would it not? I have a cap and ya know what it helped my system out cuz it used to pull a lot of power. I put the cap in when i had my old car and it stoped it from dimming the lights and the rpm used to drop really bad. It almost came to a point when it would make the car want to stall. I put the cap in and it stoped all of that. The charging system was fine all the conections where good. So yes caps DO help. I moved my system over into my new car and kept it all the same. I don't know if it would change if i took the cap out but i'm not about to find out. I do have a optima red top in my car anyway even though it is a 2004 and only had 1000 km (so like 600-700 miles or something) on it when i bought it.
