 Whats the best budget HU?

When I say budget, I mean short on bells and whistles, but decent on sound quality (at least equal to a stock 98 Toyota Tacoma HU) All I really need is a tuner with bass, treble, balance, and fader. I won't be using the high output, so power isn't an issue either.

Not sure what the exchange rate is between the Canadian and the US dollar, but I'm sure that price is well out of my *budget's* range. All I am after is equal to the stock unit in sound quality (with RCA outputs) and stock unit is not that great. . .

Thanks, I'll go to some of the local stores and see which on sounds the best, and then go buy it online :-)

LOL - I always say -- "Cool, I like this one, maybe I'll be back next week after I get my paycheck."

Then go get it 30% cheaper on line. :D

Sorry shop owners. The rich(er) guys will have to support you - I can't afford it!

Just don't come to the store when you have a problem with your stuff.

I've been a consumer for 30+ years, and the number of times I've needed to *come to the store* don't justify spending any extra $$$. . .I'm more than happy to take some time and do the research, then take my chances. . . If that bothers you or any *suggested list price stores* tuff titty. . .

Also, many shops will match any reasonable price, I bought my Diamond Audio amps from an authorized dealer for the same price they would have cost me online, in fact if you figure in S&H, I got them cheaper. Also, most shops, if they are respectable, will assist you on any problems if they carry that product, it may cost you a few $'s, but just think, you saved those dollars by buying it online, also, most online stores do back their products, you just have to know where to shop. As for affordable, the Panasonics are the best for an affordable unit.

Not sure if any shops around here will deal, the few I've been to, and the few other's my freinds have been to are suggested list, no budging. That's why I said *suggested list price stores* and didn't just say stores in general. Besides, I enjoy researching and learning about things that interest me, such as car audio. So why let some salesman take that enjoyment away. . ? :) I'll leave what little patience for salesman that I have for when I need a dishwasher, or an oven. Thanks for the recomendations, I'll be checking out the Panasonics. . .hell I might even go to curcuit city. . .

Crutchfield has some great deals on last years Panasonic MXE line, and they are reliable, safe, and give you installation accessories for free depending on your vehicle. Here are a couple suggestions for your price range.
MXE CQ-C5210U
CQ-C1401U
These are both $149.99, the CQ-C5210U is on clearence it is regularly like $229.99. These are both very good units w/ a very good price.

No problem, I really like the MXE units, they are relaible, and Crutchfield is a very respectable online store to purchase from, fast shipping, free accessories, and 24 hour tech support, they will also give you a master sheet to assist you on installation.
