 caps

Ok my head lights still dim even tho I have a cap, and a red top battery. I don't want to spend almost $400 CDN on a stereo alt yet but I'm willing to get another cap. The one I have now is 1.25 faret and I am running 2 Clarion 10's and a sony explode 760W amp off of it. I have 4g power wire all the way around. I am adding 2 clarion 12's asap. I just need to build the fiberglass box's for them all. My buddy that sells me all my car audio stuff says he has a 5 faret and a 10 faret cap. Would this solve all my problems by going with the 10 faret cap?? or is it going to do jackall for me? In total I want to be running 2 10's, 2 12's, 3 amps (one for each set of subs and one for the 6 speakers i have). later on I will be looking at getting a clarion dvd deck.

hey I'll tell ya what everyone keeps telling me. Adding another cap will wont really help.....adding another battery wont help. You need to have enough power produced...you need to get a bigger alternator or have it rewound to a higher output. But you dont need to drop $400 for a special alt. Just got to a shop that rebuilds them. A guy down the road from me can rewind my 80 Amp alternator to a 150 Amp for $125! Much better deal than buying some $400 thing. And I think it's farad, not faret.

This is the 3 amp set up, right?

You should have spent your money on the alt first. You didn't need the batt or the cap.

I agree with N2 I have 5 amps and I'm running on two batts and believe it or not 8 ga wireing,(at the time it was an emergency quick connect cause I ha a show to go to,and havent replaced the wireing or got an alternator yet)but I dont crank it up too often and I can definantly tell you that I will asap cause I'm catching problems with keeping that batts charged.(yall can laugh but its hard when ya broke) But seriously, get a bigger alt and wires.Whatever N2 and Korndog, and afew others here recommend, trust them. Its ok bout spelling I aint too good either

the thing is the amps have all been bought over time. same with the subs. had the 10's 1st then just bought the 12's. so I don't know what to do anymore. I am trying to sell my car and get an 02 stang. I might just sell the 10s and get 2 more 12's. I have 1 amp per pair of subs and just added the 3rd amp to power the speakers in my car to their fullest. So i think i will just be going to get the alt rebuilt but what power should i go for?? 170 or 200?? or do i need less?

Although you probably need an alt upgrade, why not try the big 3 first? All you need is about 5-10 feet of 0/1 wire and a couple of ring terminals.

 I agree

Dont run the 2tens and 2 twelves!!!! the twelves will cancle out the tens for the most part or totally. You wont even know you have 2 tens, it will sound like 2 twelves. try 3 tens or 3 twelves instead. or 4 of all the ame kind. 2 twelves and 2 eights will also work.
