Amp won't turn on!
So I am trying to power an older Kenwood KSC-WA80 basstube. All I wanted was a cheap setup. The tube has an amp in itself, but the wiring harness is $40+, so I bought a coustic amp on ebay for $20. It is brand new, I can't get it to power on. I have the connections right and the fuse isn't blown and I have the Remote connected to the HU. I also tried connecting the remote to the power to get continuous power, but still nothing. Should I open the thing up? Something loose? I don't frickin' get it and it's driving me nuts. If the amp is fried - Does anyone know how I can figure out how to get power to the bass tube and jst use it's built in amp. HELP! Please!

i dont think you can use an outside amp to power a tube that already has a built in amp anyway but i could be wrong. doesnt the tube have wires on it for power ground and remote?

Are you getting a good ground? Try running a wire from the ground terminal on the coustic amp to the negative terminal of the battery. If it turns on then you need to fix the ground. Use a grinder to get to bare metal then use a big ring terminal to get good contact area. When you screw it down cover the area with some 5 minute epoxy to seal it and prevent corrosion.

The tube had been converted to be able to use an external amp as well. There is no power/ground on it (well there is) because I need the harness that fits into the socket with all the connection wires. Thanks for the ground comment, I will give it a shot. So if it doesn't work going to the negative terminal of the battery, am I screwed?

where the harness plugs in...are there little pins in it? if so you should be able to get some female "push-on" connectors and make your own harness. if there are no pins but a bunch of slot type holes you could use the male push-ons. this is all based on if you can isolate what pins/slots do what(power, ground, etc...). maybe with a multimeter but thats not my area.

I thought about making my own harness, because I really only need three of the wires from it, but before I did that I wanted to know which wires were for what... I've had no luck. There are too many possible combinations...there are ten slots in the harness socket. :(

make you own harness
Ten slots would indicate that there is probably no turn on lead just power ground and speaker level in and out. does it have RCA jacks?

Yes it does have RCA Jacks. Someone also drilled a small hole in the bottom of the tube, where they connected speaker wire to the sub, which is what I would be connecting to the amp with, if I could get the thing to turn on.
