 15" Sub Decision

I have what is a BIG problem for me, but I'm sure it wont be for some of you guys on here......I cant decide on which sub is the best between the Rockford T1 15" and the JL W3 V2 15". I have a Zapco 9.0 amp and I'm wanting to run 3 of them in the trunk of a 87' Monte Carlo S.S.....Which of the two takes the least amount of air space? More responsive in a ported enclosure? and most of ALL....Has the ability to withhold the THRASHING that I will put on them with this lil monster of an amp that I have? LOL!!! (Most power handling?) Please, my stereo bro's HELP!!!!!! I have to make a decision this week so that they can start building my box.

The $1800 amp -- 2400 watts into 2 or 4 ohm bridged variety -- Which flavor of the amp? -- go ahead you earned it list all its specs ;) -- Not to mention you spend nearly $2k on an amp and try to give it garbage to cause to burst into flames??? Give it a few JL 13w7 or some Avalanche 15s or Tumult 15 or Top line RE audio stuff....

Ammendment: Get 4 Avalanche 15s -- Drop them all in 2.2 cuft sealed boxes -- You will be licking 128dB outside at one meter! Now think about whats going to be going on inside of your car all for ~$1000 after shipping is factored in. -- Oh and you will still have some trunk left (barely) -- Alternatively you can have a sheet of 1.5" thick MDF installed behind your seats and have the trunk as the 'box' and tune your trunk into your cab at 18hz or 20hz...... THAT would be insane.

Yep this fucker was a pretty penny...thats why I came to you guys for sub suggestions. I was told that the Rockford T1 was a "Damn Good" sub and the JL W3 V2 was an "Even Better" sub, but of course both quotes came from two local stores that are authorized dealers. Now the (JL) "man" did try to upsell me on the W7, but it was about $800 for 1 13", and since I spent so much on the amp, I cant really afford to blow another $1600 on just two subs....Can u dig it? let me say this....I had 3 W3 (not V2's) on this same amp in another car, in the trunk, in a sealed box, and it broke the hinges (literally) TWICE!!!!!!! loking for the specs. on her right now....cant remember what I did with the box.

Well, I have a 15" Soundstream Tarantula and it is just great!... it hits VERY, VERY hard, with decent SQ... 4" voice coils... 1000wrms... but one detail... it needs a biiig ported box... (4cu.ft.)but let me tell you that a second wont even be missed...

I'm sticking with my earlier recommendation -- Soundstream's old stuff was nice but they were bought out and haven’t been quite performing to the standards I have set for them. That sub will indeed get quite loud as it is designed for alot of bass at about 40hz... with useable extension to about 30hz The Avalanche however was designed for a sealed box and SQL along with its massive spl capabilities... It is about 2dB/w/m less efficent than the soundstream and handles 200 watts less power, however the soundstream has 14mm of xmax whereas the Avalanche 15 has 27mm of xmax and the XBL^2 technology keeps the driver safe by making it impossible to bottom, since 2 shorting coils act as electromagnetic breaks if they enter the magnetic gap preventing the cone from damage due to hitting hard motor parts... Not to mention they are in the same price bracket, the soundstream can be had for $185, or the ava 15 can be had for $225. The ava 15 can be ported as well, however sealed is the much better route IMHO, it can be ported to 20-22hz with a 4 cuft box, or a 6cuft box tuned to 19hz... Not that the soundstream is by any means a bad subwoofer, its just that the avalanche 15" really shouldn't be as cheap as it is... It is rather odd. It has almost 2x the excursion of the soundstream and the resonant frequency is 1/2 that of the soundstream, but it only costs $40 more which is quite frankly batty! -- Granted you should compare with everything in the $200 neighborhood and make your own decision... But you should definatly keep them in mind.
