Your opinion on my set-up please...

hey everyone. i first off appreciate you reading this :) i drive a 98 VW GTI VR6. in a nut shell...im buying subs. I am PLANNING on buying 2 10" Rockford Fosgate P2, 4 ohm subs. they are 200W RMS and 400W Peak. I also am planning on buying a 1200W Sony amp...heres website for amp specs: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp;jsessionid=1FANUK44WXX4JKC4D3GFAFY?skuId=6254867&type=product&productCategoryId=cat03085&id=1069302879573 I'm wondering whether or not this amp will be stable at 2 ohms if i wire it so? I am also planning on buying a 1.2 farad capacitor and obviously wires. Now...my question is...does this setup sound decent to you? AND, what have you guys heard about buying capicators and amp install kits (wires) on eBay? some wireing kits are selling for as low as $30 :-/ but i think with a capacitor you can't really go wrong...as long as the brand name is decent? PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION! thanks so much!

rockford P2's are pretty decent and sound okay. I would stay away from the sony amp though! second thing a cap won't make any differance. i would skip that and take a look at this amp www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2162 this is a very nice amp for an awesome price and will work/sound much better than a sony. third: do you have a headunit? are you going to amp speakers or run them off your hu? do you have speakers? subs and an amp is not a system

The rockford subs would be great but you could get a better amp than sony.

and budgetbuilder: i am only running my subs off of the new amp...if that answers ur Question. would u still suggest that amp? have u used it personally? and why should i X the cap? VW's are sketchy ecectronically already and i think i'll deal with dimming headlights without it...

well,if you think you will have a problem with dimming i would suggest you get a car audio battery, stinger has a couple that work great. i have used that amp in others setups and it has worked great, you may get it with a couple of scratches (it's a refurb) but they will not be noticeable. that amp will power those subs to thier full potential. i don't think a cap will help anything, but having a car audio battery (like stinger) will help more than a cap will. www.stingerelectronics.com

thanks a lot budget, you're helping a ton. if you really think that amp is the best one i can get for my budget...i have to take ur word for it! and can u explain to me exactly what refurbished is...is it just using used parts to re-build one??? and what do u think about buying a wire kit off of eBay? of course using some common sense, maybe a decent name brand one. thanks! and about that battery...i'm not sure i need to go to that length. but you really think it'll be fine without a cap? what would be the advantages of a cap?...if the amp were to spike at a hard hit it just supplies power so you don't get a surge directly fromt he battery....ina nutshell...right?

the subs are fine, those p2s are very good subs on the price, and require almost no space on a box. but on the same price range you can get some infinity refference, they handle 50rms more than the rf and have a way longer excursion, check em out. on the amp I wouldnt go with the sony but cause of the price, on the same price you can get better stuff. most of the sony haters here have never tryed the new line of amps and just go with the flow of the bad reputation that sony has, but this new amps have been an upgraded version of they products, but still you can do way better than sony, I just dont want you to bealive that all sony products sucks

personally I woulndt go with an RB amp, since you never know why it was shipped back and if it ever was fixed. if the amp is bad could create distorsion and because of your lack of knowledge you cant tell if its clipping or sending noise down the line and then blow your subs. its a 1/100 chance...but that 1 could be you.

there are several nice amps that you can get for around the 200$, like RF punch P3001, infinity 311a, memphis 500.1, or for a couple of bucks more RF P5002 infinity 611. and a lot of good amps that you can get for 150-200$, just a matter of looking out specials and good affordable products. depends on your budget.

a power cap will only keep the power level balanced and works like a power protector for the amp, will keep it runing steady and will avoid electrical dropdowns on your amp. COULD help you with the diming of the lights but if that happens you should be more into upgrading the battery or alternator or adding another battery or changing the electrical wiring of your car, like upgrade power and ground wires from the alt, batt and grounds in the chasis.

I dont think with a small system like that your gonna need a cap nor a battery, but you have to try and see how your electrical system in the car reacts.

if your not amplifying anything else with a 8g wiring kit your doing fine. BUT if you are planing on aplifying your speakers inside (replacing em and putting aftermarket ones with an aftermarket amp) then you should use 4g. get a good wiring kit, that has shielded rca cables and comes with all the interconects that you need. you can get it at ebay or go to a local retail shop. its gonna cost you from 30-50$

check out prices on those rf punch, infinity refference, kicker comp/compVR. are all subs in the under the 100$ range with great performance and good quality. if your a fan of rf and you like how it sound, its a great choice.

hey man thanks a ton for your help. really helps a lot. i'm gunan go in oder of what u kinda said up there ^ :) first off, i am somewhat of an rf fan soleyl because i know the rf rep for the midwest. 99% of the subs i've heard are all rf and i think they sound great. i found soem super cheap ones on eBay (brand new) and i was gunna go for those. i would be willing to try those infinity's if i could find this good of a deal. i found 10" p2's for like $50 a piece. i will check out those infinity's though....and whats excursion? :-/ i already decided not to go with the sony. they ahve developed a somewhat of a bad rep and like u said, i can get better stuff for around $150. and i did think about the RB amp too. i understand that that 1% could end up being me, so i don't really know what to do. what other amp would u suggest out of those u named off? some other guy i talked to talked about the P5002. I may look into that one. I decided to X the cap until I see how my car responds to the power. i may end up buying one anyway then returning it if i dont need it. i'm almost positive i'm gunna run into some problems with VW's being as sketchy electonically as they are. and doesn't the guage of power/ground depend on the amp? would 8 AG work for this class of amp i'm looking for? i know i need a good kit with all the interconnectors and all that but u just never know on ebay. i'll have to use a few educated guesses along with some luck and see what happens :P one again i appreciate all ur help and let me know if u think of anything else! thanks man

refurb just means it wasn't working, and factory replaces either the part that isn't working or the whole board and FULLY TEST's it. you don't have to worry about it not working correctly. those amp are really high quality, i would say hella better than a sony. IMO. and that does take 4g power and ground. has a very nice built in crossover and will sound great with those rockfords. also a couple people have bought refurb amps from ikesound.com and as far as i know they have all worked better than new. i've bought 3 refurb amps from there and haven't been burned yet.

www.knukonceptz.com will have all your wiring needs, they have good stuff and good prices. 8ga will be okay but i would suggest 4ga. especially if your using a cap. there is a 90 day warranty on those amps so i wouldn't worry.
