 subs cut in and out

it happens when either i play a really "bassy song" or play the music for maybe longer than fifteen minutes the subs begin to cut in and out while the song is playing. they will go on and off until i park the car for a while and i guess let it cool off or whatever and then the same process happens all over again when i drive. i dont know how to install subs so i had them "professionally" installed in my old car and in this car i have now (same subs/amp and same problem occured in old car too). the fuse isn't blown and they always tell me the same thing that the songs i play may be too much for the speakers or whatever. i have 2 10" sony xplods and the little amp that came with it... i'm not sure maybe a 450watt amp (same brand). anyway its really annoying and i'm looking for a better answer then what these dudes are giving me. can anyone help?

this is caused by the amp going into thermal protection usually due to running at too low of a load, or excessive clipping from the gain being set too high, or lack of current from your car's electrical system. One other reason is a bad ground or insufficient power cable gauge. Heat can cause this but usually isn't the cause, since sub amps these days are class D and heat rarely affects them to that level.

what gauge wires ar eyou using? if you have a high current amps and using to small of cables they arent getting enuf power everytime the bass hits it suck power out or the system. do you have a cap or an extra battery it might be your hu the amp might be causing it to shut down for a second till it can get enuf power back. but i bet it is because of the power going to the amp. the more power you system has the better the responce is gonna be i alwase use 4 gauge if it is under 2500 watts rms if it is higher or you are runnin multiple amps i would use larger. i hope this helps.

hey. thanks for trying to help guys. i have no idea the model number on the amp or the gauge size of the wires. i got this set (2 subs and amp)about 2 years ago. i know they're both sony xplod. i'm guessing cuz the amp came wit these 10s that its a 300w RMS amd probly 1100w peak but thats only cuz i looked on the circuit city website and selling the same kind of set again (thats where i originally got them and had them installed just recently... bare with me. so basically now i'm just taking everyone's advice and "troubleshooting". so its all i can do right now cuz the dudes at the place act like its normal for this type of thing and their advice is "dont play it so loud".

first off i would make them re run the rca after replacing them. then i would have them install 4 gauge in place of the 8 gauge. that should fix your problem. just remember make a new ground do not use the old one. with all three of those changed you should have clean sound that doesnt cut out. hope it works for ya and one more thing if the guys that installed it say that 4 guage is to big tell them to lick your bag and repace it i wount use anything under 4 gauge it is safe and it wount beat up your electrical system as much. make sure to replace the ground wire to to 4 gauge.

make sure the gain knob on that amp is set no higher than half way up. that's probably what's causing the problem.
