N2AUDIO,Need your advice pls.!!Thanks...
Good Friday to you N2!!This is 02 sentra in need of your advice. The last time you helped me,it was on the Alpine mrd605 and the Alpine mrpm650.About 6 months ago,I saw an amp that I'm facinated with. The Hifonics 1205 D-Class monoblock Brutus.450@ 4 ohms,900 at 2 ohms, and 1200 at 1 ohm stable.Techronics has this years and last years models.I'm going from my 10w 1s JL's,to the new 10w3's,I'm getting 2 of them at single 4 ohms and wire them parallel down to 2 ohms.In order to run the new larger subwoofers,a new amp is in order.I have the Alpine mrp 350 mono running the 10w1s,the new mrp f450 4 channel amp with 4 type R co-axials, and the 9847 Alpine cd-mp-3 source unit.At the moment the JL's 10w1 are in the correct sealed box. What would happen if I went vented with my current set-up ??The 10w1's rms per speaker are 150 watts. As you see,I have as much as I can send to my subs ,350 rms at 2 ohms.Trust me,this is one clean, loud ,balanced system....I would like some more bass,--2 JL 10w3's with the mrp650,thatis 300 rms per sub,I've heard similar systems at the stereo shop, all they really use is JL and ALPINE.They make a great combo!!!How would the Hifonics 1205 sound with the 10W3's??Would it be as good as the Alpine? Thanks in advance!!

So basically - with a pair of 300w svc 4's (w3's) how would the alpine 650 compare with the HF 1205d?
Ummmm --- hard to say really. I would certainly expect the HF to put out a couple hundred more watts than the Alpine, but how that will translate into output is anyone's guess. Some subs sort of plateau around rated power and don't do much more no matter how much you give them, but some improve with more than rated power. I would guess that JL being JL would be just fine with 400-450w, and be a bit louder than at ~300.
There are some people that question the quality/power ratings of the Brutus', but I consider them to be pretty solid amps. Sounds like a good match up to me.
