Amplifier recommendation - What to buy?

Hi - I know nothing about audio equipment but I'm trying to purchase some things for my 17yo son's 94 Nissan. I've decided to get him 2 10" Audiobahn woofers (good?). I need to find a good amplifier (not too expensive). How do you know what is good? Is Pyle ok? Lanzar? PowerAcoustik? I've read the articles on this web site and understood some of the words (and, the, etc...) I'm lost. I was looking at the Pyle PLA2570 2-channel, 2000 watts or the Lanzer VIBE268 2-channel, 2000 watts. Are these any good? I must have spent four hours trying to figure out why anyone would want to buy a 2-channel amp when you can buy a 4-channel. And if you don't need 4-channels, why would you want to buy one? Anyway - an amplifier recommendation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

What other amps do you have in his system? I would say get a sound stream 500sx. You got good woofers you should match them with a good amp. There are thousands of good amps being sold now, as far as I can tell Pyle is not one of them. I have heard good things about Lanzar though. Other brands you could look at are... MTX is good with a good price Kicker is real good but a bit more expensive SoundStream has been one of the best for eons. Phoenix Gold has been one of the best for a while also. AudioBahn makes good amps but they a bit expensive. The Audiobahn subs are a bit thirsty so you will want to be no lower than 500 watts RMS. Do not fall for amp makers that claim thousands of watts, they are claiming MAX (the power it can put out before it melts) wattage NOT "MAX RMS" Wattage (the max power it can put out before it distorts).

I defintly wouldn't go with anything you have mentioned....Pyle is horrible...Lanzar isn't that good, the MTX, Kicker, Audiobahn are all better than what you have listed...also check out Planet Audio, JL, Alpine, and Zapco...the Planet Audio is excellant sound quality, try the Big Band model or the Vector D model..these will push those Audiobahn's...the JL, Alpine, and Zapco amps will all be a little more expensive...the JL 500/1 is a good amp, and the Zapco Reference 750 is a good amp..i don't remember the Alpine model number off the top of my head... www.Jlaudio.com www.raxxllc.com here are two websites you can reference for more info...

Beverly i would have to say that if you ask ten different people you will get 10 different answers. But it is good that you are researching your purchase."Very wise in todays market." yes the subs you purchased are very nice and very (power hungry)As stated by the other replies. And beleive it You can destroy speakers with to little power as well as with to much power. yes i have delt with pyle and yes i have had bad experiences with some of there products ,but i have also had some of my customers who were price consious buy them and five years later are still very happy with them. I have also installed some top of the line Nakamitchi amps whitch at the time went for about $3000.00 "yes you read that correct".Some people love there hobbies. and i am happy to help them as long as i get them to sign a contract barring them from my street at 2:00 in the morning. Well back to what i was talking about. the Nakamitchi was and still is very good but i have had problems with them and have had good experiences with them. I personally have 9 2000 watt Legacy amplifiers in one of my project trucks and I have been laughed at by peers for running them "Untill i turn the volume up" and these amps i sell for around $190.00 "No i am not trying to sell you anything" but i am trying to show you that hey even a installation shop owner can run the so called "Crappy" amplifiers and walk away with trophies. Many people come to me for there price conscious amplifier purchases . after they have bought those VERY expensive name brand sub. and most people are quite pleased with there pyramid,Legacy, and DHD purchases. well if you need any more help e me. It would also help to know what type of music your son listens to. and what he is looking for in his system.

hey i agree with cbeghaud...or i don't know what type of music your son listens to you, but i also will admit that i am bias....i work for a speciality dealer and we do a lot of high end systems...namely Chris Chambers and Michael Bennet(Minnesota Vikings)....and therefore I am used to dealing with a lot of high end equipment..I haven't dealt with any of the "lower" end gear in a long time and therefore can't speak against them...however what I can tell you is that JL and Alpine are the most reliable products I have ever seen...
