 Phoenix Gold or Hifonics

Ok so far I have found two amps that look ok to me for around the 250 mark.... one is the Phoenix Gold OCTANE-R 15.0:1 the other is the Hifonics BXi 1206D. First question is, will either of those be solid good SQ amps? And second which one is better. I've always heard that Phoenix Gold was a good amp. For 1500 watts it was around 240 shipped on ebay which sounded really cheap to me (new PG). And I've heard Hifonics Brutus are really good amps but its like 10 dollars more for 300 watts less, granted I'm using somewhere on the lines of 900-1000 watts, but want to have this amp for 2 15s in the future running around 600-700 watts a piece. Thanks

The Hifonics would be a better amp and better quality. I would sacrafice the 300 watts for the better quality amp if I were you. Don't worry about SQ when dealing with class D mono amps. It's totally irrelivent and the human ear cannot detect any kind of THD especially in bass. Check out this link. This is a Hifonics amp for less than that Pheonix Gold amp and puts out 1600 RMS @ 1 ohm. You want to get a 1 ohm stable amp. It is alot easier to find speakers since all of them are made in Dual 4 ohms and harder to find dual 2 ohm subs in some brands and models. You will want to get dual 4 ohm subs for the 1 ohm load.

Ok thanks. Was also wondering for that 1600 watt amp, is there a cheap amp wiring kit you would suggest for it? (no need for RCA, and the remote I'm sure I can find)And in the amp wiring kits is there really a big differance between a 20 dollar kit and a 50 dollar kit with all the same stuff, other than brand name? I've also been reading up on these forums, I've heard that Crunch makes pretty much the same amp as the Hifonics just cheaper because its not known, would that be a good amp, as in it almost be the same quality as the Hifonics?

the specs listed on retail websites for the PG amp have always been pretty vague IMO. The manual, however, clearly states it is 1500w MAX power. RMS power is 1000w at 2 ohms. The Hifonics amps produce optimal power at 1 ohm.

I agree with N2Audio, go for the Hifonics amp and amp kits are pretty much all the same. The thing thats makes them more usually is the RCA cables that come with the amp kit. If you already have the RCA's that you want to use don't worry about what brand it is. Your gonna need 1/0 guage wire for that 1600 watt Hifonics amp. That amp will draw alot of current so your gonna want to do The Big 3 upgrade also. Try to get the 1/0 guage amp kit that has the most feet of power wire so after you get done, you can use the remainder of the wire for The Big 3 upgrade. You should look into maybe a Kenetik Cap Killer or Optima Yellow Top for a second battery if your pushing 1600 watts. You can get them for about $80 if you get a deal. Below is the link for the Big 3 upgrade.

Here's the definitive awnser: Hifonics, and here's why: I VERY biased torwards PG, I love them, but as N2A pointed out, as I was going to, the PG amp in Q is 1500 max, and 1000 rms @ 2 ohms. So when a die hard tPG freak as myself tells you to get the "other" brand, do it! I've also got a bit of experiance w/Hifonics.

As always you guys are very helpful thanks a ton.. I'ma get the 1600 watt hifonics, but got one more question about the battery situation. I've talked to a friend about the battery thing, and said I'd only need 1 battery, would you really suggest getting another battery? Also if I get another battery, I will need a better alternator aswell won't I? P.S. I am gonna get a 4 channel for my components prolly 500-800 watts, hopfuly another Hifonics (just trying to keep the same amp if possible) if this changes the outcome at all, thanks again.

well Kenetic batteries don't work like normal batteries. They act more like a power cap but 100 times more powerful allowing you to have stored energy when the bass hits. You can always add it later if you feel you need it. I would definetally do The Big 3 like I suggested though. As far as a new alternator, it wouldn't hurt and would help alot and allow you to power your system and regular electrical compnents of the car with ease. But I would wait to see if you need one or not. If your voltage drops are too much you need to start upgrading electrical components until the problem is solved. Start with the Big 3 upgrade. It will raise your voltage drops instantly and is the best, easiest, and cheapest upgrade you can do.

PS. DO NOT listen to anything PowerAcousticBOY sais, he has been proven wrong on almost every post he has been on and doubt he has or has ever owned or installed a system due to his lack of knowledge.

Ok thank you. I am getting a new car soon and was gonna do the big 3 regardless if I needed it or not. I will see if I need another battery or that thing you where talking about, but I doubt it, considering I'll proly use a max of 1000 watts. And question about alternator, if I get a new one say at 160-200 amps, would it melt wires in my car, or blow my battery because its getting too much juice?

The Brutus series from Hifonics is pretty wicked. Good choice.

Hey 9oh7, didn't you challenge this little bastard to a battle and he never responded. Come to think of it, I think he has yet to respond to about 4-5 challenges. Actions speak louder than words and that's all PowerAcousticBOY has. He backs up nothing he sais and with every new post I'm actually starting to feel sorry for him. I do think that when he grows up, he's gonna be into some freaky wierd shit like S&M or torture cause he sure enjoys getting his ass beat in the forums everytime he pops his grubby little face in. You know this guys still a virgin spanking off to internet porn 5 times a day. And then for his grand finale, he likes to get tortured in some car audio forum and then spank off again. Like I said, wierd shit.

Hey check out pics of PowerAcousticBOY's family wagon. From what I can see, there is no system at all in the car, just a skateboard in the trunk. He took pics of his radar detector (wow thats cool) and then brags about the horsepower in an automatic 4 door sedan. (Yea 0-60 in 5.6 minutes)No wonder he excepts no challenges, he has no system. Then he talks shit all over the forums cause he's pissed that all of us do. Now it all makes sense. Oh here's the link to check out little man's 4 door export piece of shit. His next accessory in that car should be a baby car seat, it'll go perfect!
