 STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS

I just bought a new 2006 Mercury Mountaineer which only has cruise control on the steering wheel currently. On the other side I can see where the radio controls would normally be on the steering wheel in other Moutaineer packages but it was not an included option on mine. My question is how difficult would it be to have the radio controls installed in the space already there for that purpose? Also, this would probably have to be a dealer install so as to not void any vehicle warranty, I guess. One of the salespeople told me it could not be done but I don't think she really knows, since she was clueless on some other things and very new to sales. Thanks in advance for any help! Rodney

if its factory then yes you can, if its aftermarket it will depend on the HU you have.

 STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS

Okay, that gives me something to work with. I plan to keep the factory HU, at least for now. Any idea how big of a job this is and how many hours I should plan to be charged by the dealer? Thanks, Rodney

i would assume if it factory the dealer will need to do this. As long as the radio controls are compatible with the HU that was used in your model vehicle. More than likely this will be expensive. I would actually consider a new HU with steering wheel controls.

just out of curiosity...what are some of the HUs that have steering wheel controls? i've never heard of an aftermarket with those controls.

Doesn't Sony have controls on some units you can locate on the steering wheel? Troy

I appreciate all the replies! I am now trying to get the dealer to upgrade as part of the original purchase. Thanks again!

Most of JVC's current head units are compatible with factory steering wheel controls on newer vehicles.

There are factory integration units you can buy for most brands that plug into the car and interfaces with the stereo allowing those controls to work.
