Want to change to a Polk SR124...

Hi, I currently have a MTX 5512(300W RMS) running off a Alpine MRD M605 (Mono - 600W RMS @ 2Ohm @ 14.4V). I was looking at getting the Polk Audio SR124 sub (700 W RMS); would I be underpowering it if I were to use the same Alpine monoblock? Do you think it's ok to get a sub that is 100W higher than what the amp can provide? I just changed my speakers to Polk (MMC 6500 and MMC 690)...quite impressed; was wondering if their Sub (SR124) sounds as good? Also, any other suggestions for a sub that will go well with my Amp...better SQ and SPL than the 5512 Thanks...

well the only thing that I am sure of is that the sub and amp combo will work without doing any damage if you watch the gains and volume.

X2, You'd be perfectly fine. I'd do it. But then again, I know how to watch my gains and setup.

get a Stereo Integrity BM or Soundsplinter RL-p. never liked the sound of any Polk sub from the old Momo(1st gen was the best) to the new SR series. Its impressive for what has come from Polk but with so many audiophile companies like SS and SI who's owners are so stubborn and perfectionist when it comes to their products, i stick with these companies over ones like Polk and Jl and the sort.

Thanks everyone... Not sure if I will get the SS or SI stuff in India and the JL is overpriced here...I could look at the Kicker CVX but then again it's 750W RMS... I really want to get the Kicker stuff like someone had advised on this forum but couldn't get it then... Will keep you'll posted...
