 Need expert advice

I did a wiring configuration on my front speakers that gave me a great sound until I turned it up loud.  This is what I did; I wired the front 4X10 dash hooked up in parallel with a rockford two-way crossover running a pair a X1t tweeters and a 6.5 inch set of full range speakers.  So I may have broken the rules when running full ranges as my mids going through crossovers but I didn't get clipping.  I turned it up and got and ungodly loud screaming high pitch sound so I turned off the head unit to save my hearing.  Later I turned on the radio and the fronts were completely out.   I switched the rca's from the front to rear on the equilizer since it is an extra pair because I'm running the rears off the head unit and the speakers now work.  So evidentally I blew out the rca's on the eq on those two channels.  Here is my dilemna; the left tweeter is now competely out and I noticed the negative wire was only held onto the tweeter by a couple threads.  OK, I can understand that I have over 100 watts going in with little escape so I overloaded the circuit on the tweeter on the left side.  But why would it blow out both left and right channels and not just the left.   I really want to hook up a new tweeter witht the same wiring configuration but I am afraid of a repeat dilemna.  The sound was so good that I feel it might be worth the risk if it is possible a bad negative wire on one tweeter could cause that kind of damage.   I do have too heavy of a fuse on the eq so I know that this might have caused damage to the eq but I don't understand how both channel could be effected.  It looks like the fuse in the crossover is blown too so I would have thought the damage would have stopped there.

only thing i can think of is if 4 ohm speakers were wired in parallel then that would be a 2 ohm load, and bassically that could blow your channel

Your right that I am running a 2ohm load but I'm going through an amp.  I hooked up another tweeter to replace the one that the negative wire was pulling out of and haven't had any problems.    Thanks for the reply.

I had an idendtical setup and got the same results. Wow that scream is loud. I'm now running 6-/2 inch mids in the doors off the fronts and the x1t tweeters in the 4X10 location in the dash for rear. Coming off the rear goes the mono amplifier for the Subwoofer. It is plenty for a two seat car and sounds great. I'm a little worried that I'm supposed to be running an amplifier with the X1t crossover system but there seems like there is enough power just coming off the head unit.

I didn't see you thread that you got it working. Is it still going ok at 2 ohms?
