 High Freq Rolloff

I am trying to find a way to attentuate the high freq using a passive method without having to buy an expensive EQ.  I just want a nice simple rolloff from 5khz and up.  Perforated vinyl sounded promising since it would attentuate 5khz by 3 or 4 db and rolloff steadily from there, but I am worried about the comb filtering effects caused by the vinyl sitting 1/2inch away from the speaker.  I thought perhaps my next step could be to build a passive crossover or filter that could do the same thing, however I have little knowledge in that area.

Anyone have any suggestions or sites where I can get the knowledge to continue?

Thanks,

Steven

after you read that you can goto www.parts-express.com  they sell passive x-over kits that you can solder together very easily to custom tailor the freq x.

Thank you both for the replies.  Upon reseaching the crossover design site, I believe that what I am looking for is more advanced and not a common design goal.   A first-order crossover is 6db/octave.  I am looking for something in the range of 2-3db/octave.

Further reseach online has led me to some kind of diffuser made out of natural wool felt.  I have seen and read about a thick wool felt panel cut out around the tweeter and extending several inches towards the baffel edge to cut down refractions and therefore brightness.   More advanced is a star shaped cutout which also further cuts down on refractions from the felt itself while improving off-axis responce.  At least that's the claim.

To be put to the test soon!
