 newbie question -crossover installation

Can crossovers be mounted "back-to-back"? That is, can a pair of crossovers be placed with the back of one crossover mounted against he back of another crossover? I'm upgrading the audio system on my 2001 BMW 330Ci. The amp is a JL XD400/4,the fronts are Diamond S600S, and the rears are Infinity Kappa 6.5. I have room for the amp and one set of crossovers in the trunk. I'd like to have all four xovers in the trunk but that would require back-to-back mounting for the xovers. Thanks!
