why does one sub unplugged sounds louder then both plugged?

Hello im new here and fairly inexperienced when it comes to sub woofers. I just need a little help. I recently purchased two alpine type r 10" 300watt RMS, DVC 4 ohm subs and a boss 550W x 2 channel rev 700 two ohm stable amp. I currently have the subs wired according to this crutch field diagram for a 2 channel hooked up to 2xDVC 4ohm subs http://a248.e.akamai.net/pix.crutchfield.com/ca/learningcenter/car/subwoofer_wiring/2DVC_4-ohm_2ch.jpg However ive noticed that when i unplug one subwoofer the bass gets significantly louder. Im fairly sure that the phasing is correct, so my thought is that the subs are not getting enough power from the amp. so one sub actually hits harder then both due to the extra watts going to a single sub. any suggestions or solutions? that is exactly right... you need a 1000 watt 1 ohm stable amp for them subs...that boss is putting out around 250 top....

Which should i buy, 1000W hifonic mono class D amp, 1 ohm stable 2 channel, or a     MD-2622 1200W 2 channel, 2 ohm stable?

so ive been doing some research, i understand the impedance thing now. so the only question is. if i wire my two DVC subs in parrellel/parellel to get the maximum 1000 watts out of the hifonics, is it 1k to each sub or 1k a pair/500 to each.

wired all parallel it would be 1kw total rms 500 per sub
