 CLK Upgrade

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.....

My wife has a 2002 CLK-320 Convertible.  I want to upgrade the head unit, stock speakers and a nice amp.  I was looking at Focal 165 KR / KR2 / KRX2 series.  The CLK measurements are 6.5 size with 1.5" depth.

Focal depth measurements are: KR (2 13/16"), KR2 (2 7/8"), KRX2 (3 1/16").  Will these speakers fit in the CLK?

Any recommendations on a bang for the buck amp that would make the Focals really shine?  What about a head unit?  We were considering something with Navigation, but, we do not want DVD.  Otherwise, we will settle for a single din.

On a side note, my Alpine 9835 is dead / dying.  I was looking at either the Pioneer 7200HD or the new Kenwood kdc-x995.  What do you think of either one?  The new Alpine units are not the same as the old school stuff.  Maybe I should try to get the 9835 repaired?

9835 is way better than the new alpines...the 7200hd will spank the 994 on sq...if ur buying expensive speakers you better be ready to shell out good money for a good amp...the speaker is only as good as the signal it receives..not a focal fan at all.. way overpriced...look into MB Quart QS216 and any MB Quart amp, any speaker you use will have to have a spacer added to it in that car.... all of the CLK are a huge PITA!!!....even the K2 series Focal would be hard pressed to be more sonically accurate than the QS216 quarts...PASMAG gave them an amazing review...but they really need a good 200 rms or more to shine..if your dead set on the Focal get a higher end amp such as zapco or arc...you will need 1 that has tiffany topology to help with the KR series lack of tweeter control.

sicaudio....

Thanks for that excellent response.  I found the PASMAG review you mentioned.  I was impressed.  I thought MB Quarts were on their way out years ago due to being bought or not made in Germany anymore or something like that.  Not really sure.  It is ironic.  I bought MB Quarts many many moons ago for a Nissan Pulsar.  Will listen to them this weekend.

I have a few questions:

1.  What do you think of these amps for the MB Quarts?  Can I do better?  The author said they work best with clean high power.  Should I consider 2 channel amps and let the head unit run the rear coaxial speakers for fill?  I may consider adding a subwoofer later even though the CLK trunk is incredibly small.

Soundstream Ref4.920, MB Quart Q4.150, ARC Audio xxd 5080.

2. Do you like HERTZ speakers?  I was thinking of the HERTZ HSK 165?

3. Do you like the 7200HD for the CLK?  What about a Navigation head unit with steering wheel control?

4.  Assuming I provide all the parts to an installer, what are the labor hours to install a head unit, front/rear speakers and amp in a CLK?

Thanks

i hate SS amps and pretty much anything else they make these days... the Q amp is sexy the arc is sexy either 1 is a winner for sure...the QS series quarts will want 200 or more rms tho... and yes... I love Hertz..as for navi it gets super expensive...i alwyas recommend a good portable gps...navi units built in cant be affordable repaired when they mess up ( and they do more than people think)...as for labor i would have no clue...i usually give base price plus add on for anything that i foresee when i look at the car prior to the install...on that car nothing is cheap to do...they are a huge PITA lol
