 thermal protection

Does anyone know how the Rockford Fosgate thermal protection work. I need to know if the amps calculates a theoretical thermal condition or if there is an actual thermal gauge incorporated into the board and if so where that might be located. I'm running a few fosgate amps without their cases and I would like to know if this will have any effect on the thermal protection. Thanks for the help.

uhhh without the heatsinks those boards will probably fry. I would be careful. And I am pretty sure most boards have actual temperatures sensors.

I have added 8" sections of heat sink to each of the three transistor banks. I'm just not sure where, how or what triggers the thermal protection.
