New car, Needs some bump
Just got a 2011 dodge avenger, and while the stock stereo is pretty nice, I think I need a woofer. I had a 15inch fi SSD in my old blazer. And that was a while ago, just looking for some ideas. I loved my fi, so maybe that route? But I don't know what'd be better for a car, the trunk is pretty big, but I don't wanna take it all up.

a tc sounds epic 12. They love small boxes and are very clean and very loud. They are at partsexpress.com That seems like a good option for you. Then get a brz1200 or aq1200d. You should only need big 3 and a medium sized agm in the back. Oh and I would definitely upgrade the head unit. Pioneer is the best option IMO.

Well the stock head unit already has a touch screen and 30gb of hard drive so I'm wanting to keep that if at all possible. Thinking about an Alpine type R.

well then you might need an mx-1 if it doesn't have preouts and you want to do amplified speakers as well as subs. If just subs then a pac or a mx-3. And ask anyone, 9 times out of 10 they will say the epic 12 is better than a type r. And it is only a little bit more for much better quality IMO.

Im worried that the 12 wont give me the low i love like the 15. Thoughts? and with this low end of a system would a sealed box work or should i still go ported.

I don't think you have read the specs carefully. Tc sounds subs get extremely low. You would port that and it would drop lower than your fi ssd. It has 2 inch peak to peak excursion. = kills the lows. Their lms ultra sub is considered to be one of the best subs in the world,,, but its a thousand dollars. You will be surprised how much of a punch those things pack and with amazing sq.

What about a lower end amp? And kind of specs would be best for the box? Which way should I face the port and sub? I've never put a sub in a car with a trunk, mine was in a blazer, so it was all open.

I would get a aq1200d or brz1200/1700. I know with clean power those epics will take over rated around 1500. And I think best would be port back sub back if it doesn't have the little flip down tunnel and if it does then sub back ported through the tunnel into the cab. Could be wrong on that though. Wait for Larry to chime in. And I am not quite sure with the box specs. I know SicAudio has done a few installs on them. he might know best if larry doesn't. Sicaudio@msn.com is his email. Although I think he is out of town or something right now. Might be a little while before he responds.
