2 channel or 4 channel amp settings

I've got a hifonics hfi 100.2 2 channel amp and still not clear as to how to properly setup the amp gains. Do you set up 2 channel or 4 channel amps the same way as a mono amp for a sub where you set the head unit volume to 3/4's of the way and then slowly raise the amp gain??

I've only been putting the head unit about 50% volume and then slowly raising the hfi 2 channel amp's gain up, but currently only have it at about 8 or 9 o' clock, fearing that I might blow out my 6.5" hf comps....

so any volume adjustments on the head unit side should be set to 0 or off?? My jvc ahd79 has a volume adjustment for each of the inputs...currently I have it set to +1...sort of acts as a volume boost in a way. I assume I should have it set to 0 or -1 or so...

my jvc head unit has a volume boost from 0 to +6 for am/fm, bluetooth, aux and usb inputs. So when configuring the 2 channel amp gain, I should leave the volume boost at 0??

that isnt a boost.. it is JVC's version of source level adjustment so that when you switch from cd to fm to aux etc it is all at the same volume to your ears... use a cd to set ur gains then adjust that "volume" setting in ur deck to match CD...
