 Sub level adjustment

There seems to be differing opinions on this matter. Is it better to adjust your subs gain with the sub level on your head unit at it's max or at the zero point?

I set my sub gain with the level at zero, and now I've got it at +7 db to get the right level for my musical taste or lack thereof.

If you have 2 volt outputs for example, are you closer to the correct output when the head unit's sub level is at max or at zero? Of course the whole point is to be able to balance your system and depending on the music.

It depends on the brand. I am almost positive all pioneer decks have a sub attenuation level control. Meaning at +6 (the highest) the signal is not boosted but not cut down at all so not altered. at 0db the sub level is attenuated down. I would call your head unit's company and call them asking. Some decks like sony decks will just boost the gain on the sub out when turning up the sub level which starts clipping a lot.

The head unit is a Sony CDX model, so it sounds like the level adjustment might be different than the brands you listed. The tinnier sound of Sony car stereos always bothered me, but this one has a front mounted iPod adapter and full pre outs, so it's been a good balance of features and average sound quality.

Do you mean that the Sony Xplod line is junk in terms of SQ, as a pre-amp or all across the board? I enjoy the features it has, but admittedly the EQ curve is not so great.

What single din unit would you recommend that also has a built-in iPod adapter that is accessible from the front?
