I bought a car a year and a half ago (Chevy Cobalt LT, 2006, 2 Door). The first thing I did was install my 2 10" Subs + 1000 watt sony explode (I know, not the best setup) with an aftermarket radio, some $120 one from walmart. I do not know much about radios.
I got pulled over about 6 months ago and the cops searched my car, flung my seats around, pulled my radio out, looked behind it and stuff. Well ever since then my radio has been really messed up. I'll be driving and suddenly 1 to 3 of my speakers will stop working, most commonly the front ones are the ones to quit working. My rear left always works perfectly, my rear right goes out occasionally, when it goes out my right sub also goes out so I'll be riding with 1 speaker, and 1 sub. I took my dash apart, to check the harness, it seems okay. I hooked the rca cables into the back of the headset instead of wired into the back stock speakers. That made no difference. I took out the aftermarket radio and reverted back to the stock one with the stock harness. Same issue.
I'm thinking it's the stock harness that is the issue but it looks fine. None of the wires are out or anything. Is there a way to test a harness, or what should I do?
My next step is to take the door panels off and check the wiring for the those two speakers but I don't think it's that due to 3 speakers having the same issue at the same time. It's not like just one quit working.
Thank you in advance for your help,
sorry mods if this isn't the appropriate section, I felt like it could have gone in numerous sections.
