 AM trouble

Anyone have any suggestions on how I could get better reception from my aftermarket head units? I have a Clarion and a Kenwood, neither have good am reception. In both vehicles the factor radios had great am reception. Any suggestions?

some factory setups use an amplified ( powered ) signal attenuator,,, Sentrastyle may be able to shed some light on it with specific vehicle details tho...
