Could my woofer or amp be damaged by this?
I just bought and installed fosgate prime 500 amp and fostgate p2 sub-woofer from an authorized dealer.
when I came out I noticed that the amp kept on going into protection mode every 30 seconds. When I went back to the installer, they told me that they wired it as 1 OHM when it was supposed to be 2 OHM.
Could it have damaged either the amp or woofer in like 20 minutes of use?

it could've depending on how loud it got. If it were at a low volume, probably not to both but there could be minor damage.
I'd have the installer replace both the amp and the sub since it was THEIR mistake for setting it at a level that the amp was not designed to do

LMAO..... Man think about it.... If that was a true statement from the dealer. Then he doesn't have the right subwoofer. What'd he do, just rewire the same sub from 1ohm to 2 ohms? The life a naive customer. Killin me.

Thinking about this it is simply not possible. From what I can find the P2 subs are only available in dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm. If it was wired to 1 ohm originally, it has to be the dual 2 ohm version. A dual 2 ohm sub can only be wired to 4 ohms or 1 ohm at the amp.
I would return the equipment to the dealer and get your money back simply for them lying to you. Take your money to a dealer that will at least be straight with you. I used to install at a high end shop here in Orlando...and yes mistakes happen, but there is no reason to lie to a customer just because a mistake was made.

Sadly, I think it's possible it wasn't a lie, but that the tech is just so incompetent/ignorant they don't know the basics such as possible impedances w/different voice coil configurations.

That might be true...but even if this were the case, I would still take my business to an honest, competent shop.
