Alpine Head Unit Question - Newbie

Hi Folks! I'm new to this board and was hoping someone could shed a bit of light and assist with a few Alpine Head Unit questions.

I've been using Alpine Head units for quite some time.

I had an Alpine headunit in my Tiburon. I loved it. Unfortunately (before I sold it) I didn't write down the model #. With a new vehicle I'd like to buy something close to it. There was a feature the head unit had that I was sort of hoping to find in another Alpine Head Unit. The Illumination on it was completely customizable. I dialed in the Hyundai - orangish-red perfectly. A buddy of mine was also able to dial in his Mitsubishi Green. I'd like to have that option on a newer Alpine Head Unit.

From what I can tell it was definitely an Alpine CDA-98??. Instread of blocked individual preset buttons there were individual buttons (1-10) and an MX (boost) option.

I'm not really concerned with an exact replacement, I'd just like to have that fully customizable Illumination option on an Alpine. I guess it would also help to know what the difference is between CDA-XXXX and CDE-XXXX.

EDIT: I found the model#. It was an Alpine CDA-9831

Thanks!!!!

I believe that year deck (and possibly the year after) were the only ones that had that option.  I think they had like 512 different customizable colors/mixes.
