 Amp Question? Need More Power??

Hey there.   I have a Kenwood KAC-525 amp and I hooked it up to a 12" Pioneer IMPP sub.  It seems to run it ok but I'm wondering if I'll need a bigger amp to run this sub.  It kind of gets warm after a 1/2 hour or so.   Just don't want to have a fire.   Thanks in advance for the help.

It is completely normal for an amp to get warm to the touch after a while. The heat is generated from resistance in the circuits and from the MOSFETS switching current

Cool.   Like I said it seemed to sound just fine.  It really didn't get "hot" but it was warm to the touch.   Thanks.

Heat SHOULDN'T be an issue if you're running it at 4 ohms. Amps do get warm when they're running at or near full capacity.

However, that amp is unusually low power even for a budget 12. It's capable of around 80w rms bridged at 4 ohms. Even Pioneer's lowest power 12's require about 2x that much power to perform their best.

So I should be looking for a bigger amp??  I'll have to look and see what the specs are on this amp.  Thanks.

It's 30x2 at 4 ohms, 40x2 at 2, 80x1 bridged at 4.

50x2, 150x1 is tiny by today's standards.

Don't know what sub you're working with other than it's a pioneer. IMPP is just their name for the cone material. Most of their subs use it.
