Help with removal of Sony CDX-GT200

Hi folks, I'm a pretty severe newbie when it comes to installation or de-installation matters, so I appeal for your help here. I have a 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7 that has a pull-out Sony CDX-GT200 installation. I have to get rid of the car, and so I need to get the cradle or whatever you call the internal part of the installation out. I looked long and hard at it, poked and pried with a screwdriver, but could not figure out how to remove it. Then again I'm pretty lame at this type of thing. I even had problems figuring out how to remove the door-mounted speakers I plan to save. I'm thinking I have to pull off the whole door panel...? I was hoping I could pull off the (stock Mercury) speaker covers, but they seem to be very securely fastened. Thanks for any help. I'd like to post photos if they would help, but I don't see any utility here for doing that.

For the speakers you will most def. have to remove the ENTIRE door panel. For the head unit, it all depends on the car, not the stereo. If I were you I would just google how to remove stereo from that particular car, same thing for the door. You are not the first to do this so there will be material. I just never worked on that kind of car :)
