 Audio cuts out

Hi all. Im not a audio expert, but I do have good general electrical knowledge. I purchased a JVC KD-HDR40 head unit for my wife's 96 Neon. I purchased it from Crutchfield with an install kit. I wired it in and its been working fine since last Novemeber. However, now it is not working right. Sometimes the audio to the right rear speaker makes the speaker distort badly, but sometimes it does'nt. And most recently what happens is that all the audio just stops for no reason, just driving down the road. I usually only happens when the radio has been on for a little while. At first I thought my wife was doing something wrong, but finally it happened to me while I was test driving it. I figured for all the audio to stop working, there must be something wrong that is common to all the speakers, and that would be limited to the plug or the head unit. However, I cant get the plug to cause any issues and it seems to be fine. Is it possible that the amplifiers in the HU are going bad and causing these issues? I just wanted an opinion before I package it and ship it to JVC for warranty repair. Thanks for any help you could provide.

I was thinking along the wire harness problem as well. I would make sure that all connections are tight. I myself prefer to use wire nuts. Way better than tape and easier to remove than crimps cause you dont lose wire and they are tight connections. Anyway, if all connections are good, Id check to see if this car has a factory amp. This could be the root of the whole problem. Most HU amplifiers dont just "go bad" as they are rarely overdriven.
