that is an easy question. lol. the main obstacle you will come across is that the amp. runs on 12-14 volts dc and your house runs 120-220 volts ac. the way past this is go to radio shack and buy a 12 volt dc converter. cut off the end and strip the end of the wireshook them up respectfully to your amp and you got it.

BIG MISTAKE
Don't use a converter, if it the amp draws too much power, it can overheat the converter and start a fire. just use an old car battery. I my house I have a boat battery and I just charge it when it gets low

how about...
i thought about it before and if i were to do it i would get a heavy duty car battery and give it a full charge, then keep it hooked up to a POWERFULL battery charger. but honestly i've been there and i wouldnt do it, its not worth the risk the only real way is to get a proffesional power converter like car stereo stores use, but keep in mind that will set you back more than it would cost to get a hella good home theater. good luck, hope i was helpful.

battery / converter NO, power supply, yes.
i dont know what you guys mean by power converter, but, the only way to get 12volts at high currents is to use a dc power supply, you can get them for like 30 bucks on ebay or even some new ones that put out about 10amps. every 12 watts of power requires 1 amp. so. if you have an amp that is 240 watts you will need 20amps. a ten amp power supply can power a 120 watt amp etc. i saw some guy selling some old 100 amp rusty power supply on ebay for 40 dollar. you can power a 1200 watt amp with that.
so remember. if you want to work a high power amp you need a power supply, just like the ones used in electronic class labs. that's how i know about them i used to use them in class a lot.

what will actually happen to the power if it cant produce the needed power.
e.g : i hook the sony 222 to a 8amp power supply?
is the power supply gonna blown up or the amplifier? is it gonna catch fire or something?
the reason i prefec pc power supply is tat its easier for me to get & its cheaper :)
thanks ,... u guys really helps a lot

HMMMM
IF U HAVE AN EXTRA PC POWER SUPPLY LAYING AROUND,GO FOR IT..TAKE A VOLT METER AND CHECK IF THE POWER SUPPLY IS PUTTING OUT ATLEAST 12.8VOLTS WILE THE AMP IS RUNNING..IF IT DOES THAT THE ONLY THING THAT COULD HAPPEN IS U EVENTUALLY BURN UP THE POWER SUPPLY....ALWAYS REMEMBER ITS BETTER TO HAVE TO MUCH VOLTAGE THAN NOT ENOUGH..LOW VOLTAGE CAUSES HEAT AND IT TENDS TO BURN STUFF UP....ALL THE DC POWER SUPPLYS I HAVE BOUGHT PUT OUT 13.8VOLTS CONTINUASLY,EXCEPT FOR MY 48AMP POWER SUPPLY HAS A AJUSTMENT TO RUN FROM 12.8 TO 14.8VOLTS.A ALTERNATOR PUTS OUT 13.8 AT IDLE,AND A FULLY CHARGED BATTERY SETS AT AROUND 12.8OR SO..
HOPE THAT WAS HELPFUL....

ok..
meaning tat if i use a 12volt(with stable 12volt power) pc power supply then worst thing tat is gonna happen is that it will blow the power supply out right?so if the power supply cant provide stable 12volt power supply then eventually it will burn up the amp? am i right on this statement ?:P
well i can take a volt meter & test if it produce 12volt but i cant test the ampere, how?
is there any difference if i test the power suplpy with & without the amp?
is it ok to use a 12volt power suplpy? is it considered still not enough power? coz i dun think i can get a 12.8 volt power supply :P..hhehe
thanks man..sorry bout all my questions..sorry if it sounds stupid .. :P
