Should I mount my amp to the floor

OK folks, I have not been into the stereo scene for at least 10 years so I am a little out of touch. I am installing a Fosgate Punch P4004 into my 04 Wrangler under the rear seat. Now back in the day I ran Phoenix Gold M25's and mounted them directly to the vehicle floor under the seat which caused horrible alternator whine and noise, I think it was a ground loop maybe. Will I be ok mounting my P4004 to the metal floor or should I mount it to a piece of wood then mount the wood to the floor? I am hoping that since the screw holes are in the aluminum heat sync that it may be ok since aluminum is a poor ground? TIA

 um well kinda

ok well fist off if it possable to mount it another place then do that. but if not then when mounting it you should just be sure to make sure there is no metal to metal with the amp and the floor. and the problems you had with the older amps u used to run is that mounting amps under seats is a big no no . if possable you should mabee mount the amp to the top of the box it works very well if the skrews can keep from rattleing. there are lots of ways to kkep that from happing.

if will be fine to mount the amp to the floor board. you will not want to mount it directly to the metal though. add carpet, wood, etc. between the 2 and it will be fine. what is bad about mounting under the seat is 3 things. one, space is a problem. two, the amp could overheat due to the lack of air. three, you really have to make wure you run the wires well and they do not slide. if you do not, you could easily get a wire caught in a track of the seat or something else.

also, mounting an amp on the enclosure could be fine, but it could damage it also. the only time a amp mounted on an enclosure is recommended, is on an enclosure that is atleast 3/4" thick and has bracing. if not, the flexing of the enclosure can break parts loose from the amp internally. this is also not recommended if the system is really high powered, 1500rms +.

Thanks for the info. I mounted it directly to the floor (on top of carpet) and there is no noise. Per RF it needs 1" of space around the heat sync, which I have, and it has not overheated yet. I would have rather mounted it to the speaker box but I went with a 10" bazooka... Thanks again...
