Need Help, New User - New Sub JL w7

Hello, I am new here so please give me some professional suggestions. I just bought my first stereo system which consists of a JL 12" w7 and a JL 1000x1 mono amp. For now, that's all i have. Here are the lists of questions that i have. This system is going in a 1999 mercedes c230 sedan. 1. What type of box should i get..ported or sealed? 2. Where can i buy a good reliable box? 3. Should I dynamat? How much will it cost for a professional to install? Is it worth it? 4. Would getting component speakers help greatly?? 5. If yes on #4, what watt amp should i get for them? 6. What will i also need to install my system? For instance, all i have is the sub, box and amp. What wiring should i get and where? -Please keep in mind that i listen to mostly rap music and love bass. I want the best sound quality i can get for the cheapest price i can get it at. Please list all your suggestions. Thanks!!!!

well that sub and amp you got are top notch, and if rap and bass is what you want, that will deliver (try these songs: pac-for my dogs, pac-still balln', Nas- the message, Big-kick in the door, when everythings installed for some bass). Dynamat and good component speakers will help ENORMOUSLY as far as sound quality goes, and a good amp, since you have the jl 1000\1, would be the jl 300\4 to power the speakers. Infinity makes great components and you can get them pretty cheap, try the kappa series: (www.carstereoexpo.com). installation will cost you a lot of money, doing it yourself will give you a lot of experience and is much cheaper. A good sealed box will work fine with that sub, which is such a nice sub (w7). Dynamat will make a really huge difference, you won't regret it. a bulk pack of dynamat extreme should do it. what's your deck?

carstereoexpo.com will probly have everything you need at the cheapest price, etronics.com also has good deals. alpine also has good amps for cheap and should be on that site, make sure you get a 4 channel to power front and rear speakers (components for front, and three-way for rear would be really nice), since you only have sub and amp, may i suggest alpine or infinity for speakers, alpine for head unit. they ususually have good prices. for wiring, you should get two amp wiring kits for both amps and some speaker wire.

Do you think i will be satisfied with only 1 12" sub? Also, i have an Eclipse head unit which has a 6.5 screen. WIll that be good enough? So all i will need are the component speakers and 1 more amp? What about crossovers, capacitator etc....

well, the component speakers in the front come with cross overs, so you don't need to worry about that. the speakers in the rear, which should be upgraded too, do not necessarily have to be components (speaker + tweeters) so you don't need cross overs there. a four channel amp will power all of those. a capacitor would be nice considering your drawing 1200+ watts of power, including the second amp. the eclipse head unit should be fine. a 12" W7 with 1000 watts is pretty satisfying i think, but you may want more but I'd wait for the install to see how it sounds. Your sub and amp are really, really nice equipment and will sound excellent regardless. so, a good list of things you need could be: 1- set of component speakers (6.5" midranges + tweeters and cross overs) 1- set of three way speakers 1- four channel amp. 2- amplifier power kits 1- capacitor (you may not need this if you have a good alternator) 1- dynamat bulk kit www.carstereoexpo.com has good prices on all of the above.

After doing some ebay searching..i came up with this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=32819&item=5720427923&rd=1#ebayphotohosting After looking at this...it comes with 2 6.5" and 2 4"....and tweeters As far as i know, my front doors can fit 6.5 and the rears are 4.5" ...i also have rear deck speakers but will be replaced by the sub. So what else will i need? Does my car have more speakers?

dude, those speakers are pretty chill they'll sound nice, i really don't know if your car has more speakers.
