You now have a HU that will make life easier on your amps. You won't have to turn the gain up as high. The gain is designed to match the amp's source signal voltage.

This is true but not true. There are pros and cons to having high voltage pre outs. Pro is that the amp does not have to turn the gain knob up as high. But who cares. It doesn't really matter. But with a high voltage pre out more excess noise (static) gets through. If you are going for quality a lower voltage is better. Manufactures are saying that the higher the volts the better. But that is and is not true. But yes 4 volts is a good thing but it really does matter.

Scruff - you need to do some more reading... The noise floor, or static, as you call it, is ALWAYS there, some cars noise floor is lower than others. However, the higher the gain is set on the amp, the more the signal is amplified - including the unwanted noise that has made its way into the signal path. With high voltage pre outs - the signal is more powerful when compared to that of the noise floor which means the noise floor isn't being amplified as much as it would with lower voltage pre outs.

Basically - high voltage pre-outs will never - in any way - be a bad thing to have, but if you have a "quiet" system anyway - they aren't going to make any REAL improvements. Unless you consider being able to turn your amps down a little bit a REAL improvement.
